About Heidi Behrendt
Heidi Behrendt, MSW, LICSW, is a licensed psychotherapist with more than 20 years of experience in the mental health and human services field. Since 2004, she has worked with individuals and families in a variety of settings, including case management for severe and persistent mental illness, community programs through United Way, homeless shelters, local food shelves, nursing homes, and crisis services. These roles gave her a holistic perspective on the many challenges people face and the resilience they can discover in the process.
Heidi’s academic journey reflects the same determination and empathy she brings to her clients. She began at the Community College of Vermont, continued at Smith College through the Ada Comstock Program (graduating with honors and membership in two honor societies), and earned her Master’s in Social Work in 2016. During her Master’s program, she minored in Military Social Work, a focus that deepened her ability to serve Veterans, Active Duty service members, First Responders, and the family members who serve alongside them. She balanced each of these milestones with full-time work and the rigors of being a single parent, an experience that deepened both her resilience and her compassion.
In 2019, Heidi became a licensed therapist, and in 2021 she opened her private practice. She is formally trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and she integrates these evidence-based approaches in ways that are tailored to each client’s unique needs and goals. Heidi is also licensed to practice in New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, and Florida, which allows her to support seasonal residents (“snowbirds”) through telehealth for continuity of care.
At the heart of Heidi’s practice is the belief that therapy should feel collaborative, compassionate, and practical. She sees each client as the expert in their own life and works as a partner in helping them recognize strengths, build resilience, and create meaningful change.
Outside of her professional life, Heidi enjoys searching for sea glass, crafting, gardening, cooking, community events, and spending time at farmers’ markets or outdoor concerts. Each year, she sets a personal challenge for herself as a way to continue learning and stretching in new directions. Just as she encourages growth in her clients, she also lives by the same commitment to lifelong growth and self-discovery.
